Bring Wisconsin’s history to life with a field trip to the Pabst Mansion! On a tour of the historic home, students gain a deeper understanding of Milwaukee’s industrial, societal and immigration history through the lens of one of the city’s most influential citizens, Captain Frederick Pabst. Each tour can be customized to fit various grade levels and meet core curriculum standards.

Specialized Learning Experiences

The Pabst Mansion offers specialized learning experiences that further explore select topics. Specialty tour additions currently offered are listed
below:

Women of the Pabst Mansion

  • This tour focuses on the lives of women in the Pabst family, female servants, female artists and depictions of women in art of the home, and gendered social norms in late nineteenth century America.

Turn-of-the-Century Innovations

  • This experience explores technological advancements that emerged between 1870 and 1900. Completed in 1892, the Pabst Mansion incorporated cutting-edge Victorian innovations such as electricity, central heating, a sprinkler system, and even a telephone. Additionally, as attendees and presenters at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, the Pabsts stood witness to the unveiling of new products and technologies, many of which are still familiar to us today. The excitement surrounding new innovations of this time and how it affects us in the present is sure to get some gears turning!

The Immigration Story

  • The Pabst and Best families, like many Germans during the mid-19th century, immigrated to Wisconsin searching for better opportunities. Take a journey with us through the story of the Pabst and Best
    families' immigration to America and learn how that voyage impacted the life of Captain Pabst as both a ship captain and a beer baron.

To obtain the group tour rate, groups must be scheduled in advance. Dates do fill quickly, so it is recommended to make reservations as early as possible.
