PICTURE PERFECT
STEIN PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE PABST AND SCHANDEIN FAMILIES
JANUARY 28 - JUNE 12, 2005
The Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion, 2000 West Wisconsin Avenue,
Milwaukee, WI- Simon Stein practiced art photography in Milwaukee
between 1873 until he died fittingly enough, in his studio in
1922. He was awarded over 30 National and International awards,
served on many of America's early photographic associations and
single-handedly documented the lives and homes of many of the
wealthiest members of society, who prized photographs from Stein's
Studio because of their beauty and composition. The days of photography
as an art form are revealed as the private photo albums of two
of Milwaukee's most influential families are opened to the public
for the very first time. The Pabst's and the Schandein's, linked
by blood and business, were solid clients of award-winning portrait
photographer Simon L. Stein for five decades.
The Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion's collection of Stein photographs
has been brought together over the course of ten years and from
all parts of the globe by dozens of family members. We will proudly
be exhibiting over 200 unique images of these two families. Subjects
include standard portraits, fancy dress costumes, weddings and
tender photographs of their grandchildren.
The Pabst Mansion is open Monday-Saturday 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday
noon-4:00pm (Closed Monday mid-January through February). The
Pabst Mansion's admissions are Adults $8, Seniors/Students $7,
Children 6-17 $4, Children under 6 are admitted free. If you have
