The captain at rest
Final Respects II

Milwaukee, WI- Newly resurected, THE CAPTAIN AT REST: FINAL RESPECTS II on display at the Pabst Mansion July 30th through October 31st. An exploration of the Victorian way of death, Victorian cemetery architecture and the bountiful use of symbolism that surrounded both. See a cast iron coffin with viewing glass in a traditional parlor funeral display. Learn the meaning behind common Victorian monument carvings and jewelry. View mourning gowns and rare Victorian dolls in full mourning attire.

If you missed the original Final Respects exhibit the first time around now is your chance to see all the highlights of the last installment. Don't miss photographic panels created by noted cemetery photographer Douglas Keister, author of Stories in Stone: A Field Guide to Cemetery Symbolism and Iconography and Going Out In Style.

THE CAPTAIN AT REST: FINAL RESPECTS II sponsored in part by a generous donation from the Milwaukee-Waukesha County Funeral Directors Association. This exhibit incorporates the time, talent, and expertise of many local and national individuals and organizations: MATC's Funeral Services Program (the only one in the state of Wisconsin); James Augustine, Professor of MATC's Funeral Services Program and past President of the American Board of Funeral Service Education; Ruthann Augustine; Cynara Baker of the Association of Collectors of Mourning Jewelry (ACMJ) and the Threshold Collection; Tara Blazer and the Mourning Glory Museum, Rockford, Illinois; Diana Smurawa; Louise Hedrick; Atha Kahler; Joyce Coughlin; William Zito; John Gion; Tom Wiseman and Brett Funeral Home; Milwaukee County Historical Society Archives; Pabst Mansion Archives; and the Wauwatosa Historical Society.
