ARCHIVES
The
Pabst Archives was founded in 1994 in order to collect and preserve
materials pertaining to the Pabst Mansion, the Pabst Family, Pabst
Brewing Company and all Pabst related topics. The collection features
over 4000 photographs ranging from 1855 to the present. This allows
the viewer to observe a broad spectrum of social history experienced
and documented by one family. These photographs have been collected
from around the world and deposited at the Captain Frederick Pabst
Mansion for scholarly research and for exhibits sponsored by the
Pabst Mansion. To view or donate to the collection, please contact
John Eastberg, Pabst Historian, for further information.
Ferry
& Clas Collection
The Pabst Mansion has long been recognized as architect
George Bowman Ferrys grandest example of residential architecture
in Milwaukee. In the early summer of 2001, the descendents of
George Bowman Ferry presented the Pabst Mansion with the surviving
examples of Ferrys work from his own personal collection.
The collection consists of over 60 hand-drawn renderings executed
by Ferry himself and many by his protégé, Elmer
Grey. If you have any information or materials on other Ferry
& Clas projects, the Pabst Mansion would like to hear from
you. Please contact John Eastberg at 414.931.0808.

Grand Avenue Mansions
Grand Avenue -- the very name signifies a time of Victorian elegance
and extravagance. Now known as Wisconsin Avenue, this main thoroughfare
was once a beautiful boulevard lined with arching elms and the
turreted mansions of Milwaukee‚s premier families. Grand
Avenue reached the height of its grandeur in the years between
1870-1900. During this time the Avenue saw over fifty homes constructed
between 9th and Grand Ave. and 35th and Grand Ave. As unique as
the people who built them, the homes represented many different
architectural and design styles including the Richardsonian Romanesque,
the Queen Anne style, and Flemish Renaissance.

Lost & Found: Victorian Architecture in Milwaukee
The Victorian period of architecture paralleled the growth and development of Milwaukee as one of America's leading cities. Stunning architectural gems were created to establish the appearance of Milwaukee as a cultural and commercial center. We examine through period photographs many of the buildings that once made up Milwaukee's 19th century landscape. While many of these buildings have fallen to the wrecking ball, we also seek out the best of those that have survived from this golden age in Milwaukee architecture.
